Singapore – Things To Do & See
ABOUT SINGAPORE
A magical blend of Western modernity and colonial past! That’s Singapore, the most accessible slice of Asia. Where else will you find skyscrapers alongside fortune tellers, state-of-the-art malls, calligraphers, beautiful temples, gorgeous gardens and marvelous restaurants jostling for space?
Singapore is also known as a food lover’s heaven. So if you know your penne from your rigatoni just hop in…
WHEN TO GO
Anytime. Thaipusam, one of the most spectacular festivals is in February. The Singapore Food Festival and Great Singapore Sale are held around July.
WHAT TO DO
Shop till you drop. Literally.
Marvel at Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, Merlion Park and Parliament House as you stroll along the banks of the Singapore river.
Hop onto a glass-top boat or bumboat and enjoy a leisure cruise on the river.
Pulau Ubin
PULAU UBIN is one of those rare places where you can find traditional fishing huts built on stilts over the sea, Malay villages, farms, rubber plantations, fruit groves and trees laden with local fruits like durian, rambutan and chempedak.
Tanjong Chek Jawa
TANJONG CHEK JAWA is dotted with mangrove swamps, rocky beaches, mudflats and seagrass beds. There is also an abundance of marine life – sea cucumbers, sea squirts, sand dollars, anemones, crabs, shrimps, etc. Do not walk barefoot here as the marine creatures will defend themselves in an unpleasant manner should you accidentally step on them.
Changi Chapel & Museum
CHANGI CHAPEL & MUSEUM stocks letters, photographs, drawings and personal effects that give a horrifying account of atrocities, which took place during the Japanese occupation.
Changi Village
CHANGI VILLAGE is also well known for the best nasi lemak (rice cooked with coconut milk and served with deep-fried chicken wing, egg, and anchovies) served at International Muslim Food Stall at the hawker centre.
If you are already feeling home sick hit Little India. The heady aroma of chapattis cooked on the streets and songs from the latest Hindi blockbusters will most likely transport you back to India.
Singapore – Optional Tours
NIGHT SAFARI

The world’s first Night Safari, developed and managed by the Singapore Zoo, will unfold the mystery and drama of the jungle at night with stunning effect. The tour begins with a drive to the northern part of Singapore, arriving at the Night Safari, a 40 hectare parcel of land adjoining the zoo. Consisting largely of untouched secondary forest, it displays a myriad of nocturnal animals in a wild rainforest setting under artificial lighting.
Your guide will lead you on a tram ride to cover the East and West Loop, where you will be able to view the animals in complete safety and comfort with a sense of roaming through a wild and vast jungle. For the adventurous, walking trails are available.
